Last year, Kristin Swenson and I decided to embark on a new adventure together: podcasting. We decided to give it a try and see if we liked it. We gave ourselves the goal of one a month, and ended up recording 11 episodes of our podcast The Writer’s Story last year with talented writing friends from around the country.

Now it’s year 2, and we’ve decided to keep going. We enjoy the experience of talking with writers about how and why they do what they do. We’ve learned a lot about them, and a lot about ourselves. And we hope it’s also useful to other people who are embarking on a writing journey of their own, or readers who are looking for exciting new writers to try.

Irène Mathieu, author and pediatrician, is our guest this month. We talk about poetry versus prose, having two demanding careers, and using sensitivity readers when writing about cultures and experiences not your own.
